The Workspace at the Old School
The Trust's goals are to acquire, restore, preserve, rehabilitate, and/or reconstruct historically significant resources in the Landmark District and immediate area; educate those who visit or travel through Georgetown about our district’s rich history; and engage in the conservation and preservation of open lands around Georgetown. The buildings rehabilitated by the Trust are intended for adaptive uses in the community. The 1874 Georgetown School House is the most prominent example of positive reuse. The workspace at the old school, together with the Georgetown Cultural Arts program operating from the Old School are positive reuse in action

Georgetown Arts at The Old School
Georgetown Arts at The Old School (Formerly Cultural Arts Program) was first created to provide signature art and culture programs for the community in the fully restored Old School. The program utilizes the Georgetown The Old School’s spaces to present arts & culture programming that interprets the art of the Georgetown-Silver Plume Historic Landmark District from the past through today providing much needed community programming for Clear Creek County, Summit County, the Denver Metro Area, and other surrounding areas. We strives to program events that keep the spirit of Georgetown and inspire attendees while also working with external organizations to collaborate on events.
Program impact
Georgetown Arts at The Old School has hosted a variety of well-known artists and worked towards building its arts & culture programming to cater to the Georgetown community and beyond. The program has built its reputation for bringing quality programming to the The Old School as evidenced by continued inquires to be a part of events.

The Old School
The restored Georgetown School, built in 1874, is believed to be one of the oldest extant brick schoolhouses in the state of Colorado. Through the collaborative efforts of many, the restored school reopened in 2015 as the Georgetown Heritage Center. In 2023 the building was renamed as the Old School to celebrate the building’s original purpose while better reflecting it’s current use. The Old School currently serves as a community gathering place and a rental facility for businesses and other community organizations. The Old School promotes its own programming through the Georgetown Arts at The Old School program that presents signature arts and culture events throughout the year. In addition, The Old Scholl partners with local and regional organizations such as CSU Extension and the Clear Creek County Library District to present additional programming. The The Old School provides much needed meeting and conference space for Clear Creek County, Summit County and the Denver Metro area, and other surrounding areas. Organizations may rent the conference room, performance hall, or classroom spaces. As there is no permanent furniture in the performance hall or classroom spaces, they can be configured to cater towards a variety of rental needs. Rental funds as well as community donations go directly towards the continued maintenance and operation of the building.
Program impact
Throughout the years of operation, The Old School has seen an increase in facility rentals from businesses and community organizations. Additionally, the program has established partnerships with the Clear Creek County Library District and CSU Extension to present programs at The Old School. In addition, the The Old School continues to build community partnerships and collaborations to co-promote and co-present events and programming within the facility.
